Harrow Civic Centre Wealdstone, London

Harrow Civic Centre Wealdstone, London

Masterplan, design and delivery of a landmark project in the heart of Harrow: a new civic quarter for Harrow Council in Wealdstone town centre.

2016
Client: London Borough of Harrow
Project Status: In progress

The competition winning scheme proposes an ensemble of buildings comprising a number of public and private functions: the council chamber, council offices, public library, community rooms, co-working space, cafe, retail space and residential apartments. It focuses on connections with the existing townscape, strengthening Wealdstone High Street and opening up connections to nearby Byron Park.

Gort Scott is leading a full design team, appointed for all design stages from feasibility through to detailed design and site supervision.

The project has emerged from in-depth analysis of this complex outer London town centre, as well as a rigorous understanding of the legacy of civic buildings and a critical assessment of what a civic building should be in the 21st century. A comprehensive engagement strategy ensures meaningful stakeholder and community consultation and meanwhile uses contribute to placemaking and introduce activity to the site.

Harrow Council are relocating their Civic Centre as part of a wider programme to maximise the long-term return on its land. It is hoped the project will also and catalyse regeneration in Wealdstone Town Centre and wider Harrow area.
