House for a Chef London

House for a Chef London

The owners of this Georgian house in The Victoria Park Conservation Area approached Gort Scott because, like many, they loved their house and its location, but needed more space for a growing family.

2009–2011
Client: Private
Project Status: Completed

The client, an accomplished chef, was launching a new business from home and needed a spacious kitchen suitable for photoshoots.

The project includes extending the ground floor at the rear at the side to make a light, bright kitchen, and extension and remodelling at first floor to incorporate an additional bedroom.

In keeping with the strict Conservation Area we created a contemporary brick exterior, using a dark brick that contrasts with the existing brickwork.  Folding full height glass doors allow the extended kitchen and dining area to be fully opened onto the garden.

Inside, the kitchen has a robust concrete countertop and a warm oak floor. A large skylight in the extension helps to connect the conserved existing French windows, and brings light into the rooms at the front of the house.
